5v3 Handball Shape

May 9, 2025
  • Tactical Focus:

    • In Defence:

      • During ruck contests, spare player should position for intercept marks.

      • After winning a ground ball, use handball chains to form structured shape and escape pressure.

    • Creating Width:

      • Spread laterally to open up space.

      • Aim to find a composed 1v0 player for clean disposal and forward progression.

    • In the Forward Line:

      • Maintain I-Shape formation with the spare as a composed marking option inside 50 for a shot on goal.

    Drills:

    • 5v3 Grid Drill:
Use a 15x15m or 20x20m grid to practice maintaining handball shape under pressure.

    • Variations:

      • 9v5

      • Expand to larger grids or use zone-based movement depending on drill phase and focus.
