Role of the C-Wing:
-
Position just behind the contest, in the defensive area or back corner of the square.
-
When the ball is bounced or balled up, the C-Wing runs in to support the T-shape forward structure.
Tactical Objectives:
-
Creates a 6v4 advantage at the contest upon impact.
-
Offers an extra access point through the additional 2 players either to:
-
Win the contest,
-
Apply pressure,
-
Or provide a clean exit option (locate and release).
-
-
If a second stoppage occurs:
-
The C-Wing rotates into a sweeping role, guarding space and preparing to counter any exit.
-
-
Particularly valuable when not dominant at the stoppage source—adds cover and stability.
-
Helps negate opposition clearances and generate momentum swings by balancing numbers at the source.
Drills:
- Simulate centre bounce scenarios with C-Wing entry
- Rotate players through both inside and sweeping roles.
