Forced Down the Line Kick

May 9, 2025

Forced Down-the-Line Kick (No Other Option Representation)

  • Station tallest/key forward or ruck at the C-shape

  • Vacuum lead from the key player – hit up hard and fast

  • Avoid clutter: no players camping in the hit-up lane

    • e.g. 5x 1v1s in congestion – relocate them

  • Allow the kick to go over the head of the key player for secondary option

  • Fast leg-speed player to be stationed behind the key (dummy lead zone)

  • Execute a run-on into space – ground ball or over-the-top

  • Aim to allow a fast, goal-side impact

Drills

  • Scenario walkthrough before execution

  • Set-up:

    • 1v1 tall drill → 3x 1v1s in the line of kick

    • Players are stationed between the kicker and the target

      • Congestion → 3x 1v1s must shift to clear lane

  • Kicker must take grass and land the ball out the back

  • Hit zone for fast leg-speed runners

  • Drill requires 9–10 players
