Arrow Shape when we Kick Out

May 9, 2025

When the Opposition has saturated their Forward Line:

Objective:
Break through with structured play and create space using controlled, deliberate movement.

Key Instructions:

  • Create Representation on Both C-Shape Sides
Ensure we have options wide on both flanks to stretch their structure.

  • Take Hit-Up Options
Use short, sharp "bullet" kicks around 25–30 metres to maintain possession.

  • Composure is Crucial
Every connection should be slow, deliberate, and composed. Do not rush.

  • Designed Play:
Execute the "Fire the Arrow" kick — a long, direct switch to our designated C-shape side of the ground.

  • Shift Their Forwards
Use ball movement and switching to drag opposition forwards out of their zone, creating space.

  • Change the Momentum
Break the predictability of standard kick-outs and build confidence in alternative structures.

  • Trial Frequency:
Aim to run this setup 2–3 times per game to build familiarity and test its effectiveness.

Training Drills:

  • Break the play into small, manageable components as per the diagram.

  • Train against a saturated defence (our own players) focusing on slow, patient build-up.

  • Execution is key. Precision and discipline in disposal will determine success.
