Jack the Ripper

May 9, 2025
  • Cascade from behind: add a +1 player behind the ball

  • Cascade to midfield: another +1 from behind joins midfield

  • When going forward, use the spare (+1) to target a dangerous out-the-back player

    • Prefer hitting a fast, goal-side player on the move

    • Aim to deliver inside the 50 arc

  • The Jack the Ripper (JTR) becomes the most dangerous forward

  • Not designed for high, long entries into 50 (e.g. avoid aimless “surge” kicks)

  • Ideal outcome: long, fast kick to a dangerous player with space to score

Drills

  • Full Ground TransitionPlay-out Scenario 1v1

    • Defence: 4v3

    • Midfield: 4v4 → progress to 3v4 → enter fast space

    • Use spares (e.g. +1, +2) to equalise or gain advantage

    • Forward: 4v4 → aim for 5v4 advantage if possible

  • Learning Focus:

    • Teach players not to surge blindly

    • Make smart decisions in fast play

    • Emphasise choice and composure when hitting up dangerous targets

  • Transition drill:

    • Run both directionsend-to-end repeat transitions
