NUMERICAL ADVANTAGE AT CONTEST

January 29, 2025

Numerical Advantage at the Contest

  • Convert even-number contests into an advantage (e.g., 2v2 → 3v2, 3v3 → 4v3, etc.).
  • Access extra numbers at all contests to gain control.
  • Apply this principle in Ground Ball & Contested Ball situations by utilizing a spare player as a Release Outlet/Overlap option.
  • Create shape to enable a 1v0 overlap option for quick ball movement.
  • Use this strategy when momentum shifts in our favor after executing a 1v1 shutdown.
  • Transition into fast play by capitalizing on the numerical advantage in overlap situations.

Learning Element

  • Engage the extra number proactively—don’t hesitate to commit.
  • Take calculated risks and attack the contest with purpose and intent.
  • Play on and drive the momentum forward.
