SYDNEY PRINCIPLES -Switch to open side

  • Switching Inside 50 – "Sydney Harbour Bridge" Arc

When in possession near the boundary inside the Forward 50, look to switch the ball around the 50m arc, shaping movement similar to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

    Key Principles:

    1. Position players along the arc to facilitate the switch and open the field.
    2. Target a forward leading out of the goal square towards the open side for a higher-quality entry.
    3. Avoid non-productive forward entries (e.g., kicking over the shoulder into congestion).
    4. Recognize moments in the game when repeated poor forward entries are leading to low outcomes and adjust by resetting through the arc switch.

This approach maximizes space, improves ball control, and creates higher-percentage scoring opportunities.
