To restrict oppo from access to the ball

January 9, 2025

Defensive Strategy When Struggling to Regain Possession:
When the opposition has the ball and you’re finding it challenging to gain access, consider switching to a 1v1 approach to disrupt their flow.

Key Steps:

1.Deny Access:

Position yourself to block their pathways and limit their options.

2.Read Body Language:

Observe the opposition's body language when they’re shut down to anticipate their next move.

3.Frustrate Them:

Apply consistent pressure to force mistakes and frustrate the opposition.

Use this to push the game into “red time,” increasing their aggression and breaking their composure.

4.Control Momentum:

Learn to shift from “red” (defensive pressure) to “green” (go-style play) quickly and effectively.

Shut them down enough to create opportunities to regain momentum and control the game.

Play out enough time for momentum swings - before play our ball etc.
